Beer

Receiving Our 2020 CAMRA Award

The oldest working pub in N17 won the ‘golden gong’ for cask beer pubs in North London. Also known locally as the ‘Annie’, we scooped the North London Branch of CAMRA’s Pub of the Year 2020. We beat hundreds of pubs to this prestigious award.

The Award is given by the North London Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). We won as a result of a vote open to 1600 local CAMRA members. Thanks to everyone who voted for us.

Colin Coyne, North London Branch Chairman, handing out the award said ‘The Antwerp Arms is the only community owned pub in North London and it’s a really worthy winner’.

The presentation took place at the Antwerp Arms (observing social distancing!) on Weds 5th Aug 2020.

Previously, the Antwerp won a CAMRA pub a of the season award in 2016.

Antwerp Arms Awarded North London CAMRA Pub of the Year 2020

We were really pleased to hear of our win earlier this year and thank all our kind customers for voting for us. Unfortunately we have not been able to officially receive our award due to the COVID19 pandemic. We hope this will be resolved as soon as we are allowed to hold an official gathering in our pub.

The competition has been highlighting the best pubs around the country since 1988. It helps showcase quality pubs that are worth seeking out and visiting, knowing you will be in the best place to enjoy a pint of real ale.

The Antwerp also has a LocAle accreditation. This helps us ensure that:
– Our customers can enjoy greater beer choice and diversity
– Local brewers are supported with increased sales
– The local economy is supported as more money is generated and spent locally
– Fewer beer miles mean less impact on the environment

CAMRA members get a 10% discount on real ales, so visit us and bring your card. You can book a table whilst we still operate under the new COVID19 rules.

Redemption Beer

If you’re looking for a friendly community pub serving real ale in Tottenham, you’ve come to the right place.

At The Antwerp Arms, Bruce Grove, we’re very proud to serve a thirst-quenching selection from Redemption Brewing Company, our local craft brewers here in London, N17.

We also serve a changing list of guest and seasonal beers and ciders throughout the year. So if there’s a brew you particularly want to see on tap, let us know and we’ll see if we can get it in.

The Redemption Ales

Below are some of ales that you will see regularly at the Antwerp. Redemption also kindly brew custom kegs for our special events. We had Legacy Oak for our Tottenham Tree event.

Trinity

Light Ale 3.0% ABV

An award-winning Light Ale brewed with three malts and three hops. Generous late hopping provides Seville orange aromas and the initial malt sweetness is dominated by citrus flavours which explode on the palate. Brewed with plenty of malt to provide decent body, so it has some backbone for a low ABV beer. There’s also a pronounced bitterness throughout.

Pale Ale

Pale Ale 3.8% ABV

Golden amber in colour with citrus and some floral hop aromas. Toffee sweetness and citrus fruit flavours are balanced by a floral and earthy hop contribution, with a long dry satisfying bitter finish.

Hopspur

Amber Ale 4.5% ABV

Amber Ale with some citrus fruit aromas, chewy biscuity malt flavours, slight sticky sweetness and grapefruit piney hop flavours. Well balanced with hop flavours to the fore and an easy bitter finish. SIBA Gold Medal winner.

Urban Dusk

Dark Ale 4.6% ABV

Chestnut coloured Premium Bitter with malts providing coffee aromas and some hazelnut and caramel on the palate, while Bramling Cross hops offer some dark fruit flavours. Citrus notes and an earthy bitterness lasts into the finish.

Fellowship Porter

Porter 5.1% ABV

Dark brown coloured London Porter with chocolate, coffee, liquorice and dry roasted malt flavours complimented with hints of dark fruit. Generous late hopping adds some zest and the initial sweetness fades into a restrained bitter finish. Deceptively drinkable and a SIBA Gold medal winner.

Big Chief

IPA 5.5% ABV

Big hoppy IPA style beer, packed full of Kiwi hops with hints of honey and nectar and plenty of tropical citrus and floral notes. SIBA South East Independent Beer Award 2019

Kazbek

Blonde Ale 4.0% ABV

Blonde ale single hopped with Czech Kazbek hop for refreshing zesty lemon, lime and grapefruit flavours with delicate lemon aroma.

Solar

Session Pale Ale 4.2% ABV

Vibrant Pale Ale is generously dry hopped with a fruity combination of Amarillo, Idaho 7 and El Dorado. A lovely pale gold in colour, with zesty citrus flavours and a refreshing hint of apricot. The lightly bitter finish leaves you pining for your next sip.

Traumas, heartache and tremendous commitment to keep a well loved pub in Tottenham has finally paid dividends. The Antwerp Arms in the historic Bruce Castle Park area has been awarded CAMRA North London’s Pub of the Season.John Cryne, the Branch Chairman, said ‘The effort that the local community put into saving this pub has resulted in a hostelry that they can be proud of. It remains committed to supporting both the people who live locally and guests from further afield. We know this because the voting for this award came from all over North London. We are therefore very pleased to give this award to the Antwerp Arms. Even some of the beers they stock are local, from Tottenham brewer, Redemption’.

The Antwerp Arms, known locally as the Annie, dates from 1822 and is the oldest working pub in N17. It was purchased and saved from closure (and most likely conversion to accommodation) by the Antwerp Arms Association raising funds from individuals and a SIB Capital Assets grant. The pub is a haunt of Tottenham Hotspur fans and the Club and its Supporters Club also supported the campaign to keep the pub open. John also added ‘The pub is now getting into its stride and we hope that this Award will encourage others to come and pay this pub a visit’.

The pub is now run by the Antwerp Arms Association. The award ceremony will take place at 8pm Tuesday 19th January 2016. A few pints will be raised to celebrate. For further details contact:John Cryne on 07802 174861; Antwerp Arms: 020 8216 9289
